Philosophy: Relfection: My Prayer

Post by MorGrendel »

Before a fight, some individuals need to get psyched up and get the juices flowing; while others prefer quiet a moment in which to find their center. I fall into the latter. I do not wish to discuss religion, but it plays a part in my makeup as a person. For what is worth, I say a little prayer, which usually consists of me repeating the first line below over and over like a mantra until I find peace. I offer this as a personal reflection, and not a Galatian tenet or a judgement\requirement of others.

***

O'God protect me, guide me, and guide my blows.

Allow me to strike without fear, and with power and goodwill. Stay my hand in anger, and keep my blows from being struck with malice.

May I always remain honorable and honest, and with a smile upon my face.

O'God protect my opponent, for one day I may need him to stand beside me.

How badly did you butcher this when you fought drunk at Pennsic that one time?

Errr, Didn't need to find my center that day. . .

Actually a point I meant to make was about how I let myself get in my own way. I expect too much out of myself and in effect psych myself out. When I am calm and indifferent, when I am almost more of a spectator than a participant, that seems to be the days I am the best.

I agree with you on that Jeff. I have found the days that I fight at my best I just kind of flow. I am really not thinking or trying just doing. But you have to be calm and indifferent to get to that point where everything just fits and flows.

Oh I absolutely concur. I always find it best to fight with a clear mind and no emotion. I just couldn't help but make a joke =)
