markland weapon regulations?

Post by Rachel »

Hi, I was hoping someone could tell me what you have to do to turn a peice of ritan into something legal to use for markland. Things like padding thickness and length and weight requirements or limits. I would appreciate knowing about great sword and maybe glaive. Thanks

first off here is the link to the Markland Frat Rules. If you get a chance you should read through them all. http://www.markland.org/rulesfrat.php

But for NOW here are the weapon building rules for Two handed Sword and Pole Weapon

Slashing Weapons:
All edge weapons must have contrasting material representing the cutting edge.
Steel or metal basket hilts are not allowed. Leather is allowed
Two-handed swords (maximum length 78")
Must have 3/4" sealed cell or equivalent on entire blade (including flat).
Cutting edge must be obvious; the Reeves' Guild recommends an additional 1/2" strip of sealed cell with a strip of contrasting tape running down it.
If to be used for thrusting, must have a thrusting tip as described for spears.
Slashing polearms:
Maximum length is 78".
Head must be built up from lightweight, semi-flexible material.
Must have at least 1/2" sealed cell or equivalent on entire head (including edge, top, back, and sides).
Cutting edge must be obvious and padded with at least 3/4" sealed cells or equivalent.
Haft must be covered in at least 1/2" sealed cell or equivalent extending at least 12" below the lowest part of the cutting edge.
If to be used for thrusting, must have thrusting tip as described for spears.
Spear Thrusting Rule:
The thrusting tip must be 2" long and 2" wide at the base. The tip must not taper too less than 1 1/4". It is ideal that the tip be constructed of pipe insulation, as sealed cell is too hard.

This is for Kevin.
I Told you that it wasn't 8" for Pole Arm. Also here is the haft rule for Axes:
Battle axes:
Maximum length is 36"; larger axes will be considered slashing polearms.
Must have at least 1/2" sealed cell or equivalent on entire head (including edge, top, back, and sides).
Cutting edges must be obvious.
Haft must be covered in at least 1/2" sealed cell or equivalent extending below the head at least 1/3 the total length of the weapon.

you could always bring it by and we can rebuild it if it is wrong, but then again we really can't get together until after the New Year anyways. If you want to just let me know.
