Grand Army Challenge!

Post by Fritz »

As is my custom with a new Army Book, I've been jumping back and forth on possible lists and choices for my High Elves. The other day I started wondering just how big of an army I would have if I included everything I could possibly want. Well apparently the answer is 6000 points. Yes, I'm insane enough to sit down and write out a 6000 point army list. Don't judge me.

I have a nice long vacation coming up that will include a significant amount of time in Maryland. Steph and I will be in town from 28 June through 7 July. Here is what I propose: all of you band together, make a combined army list of 6000 points, and we find a day when I'm home to play this absurdly giant game. Heck, I might be able to push it for even more points. Maybe we can go crash Dropzone Games and grab up a couple of Tom's tables. Either way, I want a solid full day to play a game of titanic proportions. Thoughts?

I think you're all misunderstanding my intent here. My idea is for you guys to combine your armies against me. For example, 6k HE vs 2k Skaven, 2k Orcs, 2k Ogres or 6k HE vs 3k Skaven and 3k Orcs. I'm crazy, but I'm definitely not crazy enough to try to fit multiple 6k games into one day.

Obviously we can edit this idea. Why don't we have everyone come up with lists they are comfortable with bringing. From there we can determine sides and adjust lists to even things out. I can probably bump up my points further if need be. For now you can find my 6k list on my blog: http://warhammertruthiness.blogspot.com ... lenge.html

Dan what day of the week is usually best for you? I'm was gunning for 29 June, 30 June or 6 July.

How do you make fighting HE worse . . . having to negotiate for power/dispel dice.

Dan, I'm pretty sure we did a 10K battle, where 5K came in on turn 2.

I'm working on the scenario, but I was thinking a minimum of 4D6 winds of magic. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much high elf magic dominance has come down. There are lots of players over on ulthuan who are still playing with a magic first mindset that are having trouble because they now have to make due without the banner of sorcery. However, you'll now have to deal with the rest of the army no longer being gimped.

Gone are the days of irresistible force 6 dice Mind Razor for the win! And good riddance. A game should not be won on one roll.

I now expect to see a ton of smaller spells being cast our way (1-2 dice) to bleed us to death. I think the HE can still have one of the most potent magic phases out there if they bring the right load for it. The loremasters looks great! And teclis is actually still very very good. I mean a LD10, lvl 5 wizard, with 2 scrolls, can pick his spells from any lore (and every successfull high magic spell grats the unit a +1 ward save, stackable). Badass!

Or perhaps Alarielle. I read some good things about her on the interwebs. Some claim she's even better then Teclis. I hear she heals herself every turn and can get up to +8 for her life and light spells. Yup, you read that right - can act like a lvl 8. I can think of some really deadly combinations here.

I think the army is much more balanced now and has a ton of goodies. I think it can certainly be a top tier army now. I still can't get past the -1 Str, ASL aura that stupid bird gives to its enemies.

Did I mention resurrecting flying monsters that will ressurect their riders too?

I certainly look forward to playing it. My ogres needs to beat on something (or a good beating).. Ether way, somebody going to bleed ;)

Nothing against Chris, but that having to roll above 2 is killing his magic phase. He has +7 a few times and failed to cast a 5+ spell. I'd feel bad, except I'm facing 4 mosters, and I got no cannons and my caster blew up on turn 2 (wait he had a 5+ ward, shit. Chris I want to roll that.).

roll it, Your due for a few of my 2's. I'd be ok with the 1's failing but i keep rolling 2's. I'm having fun with this list but I,ve been looking over the book more and more and think I have some better options for a real list. I really just wanted to field 5 big monsters.
